Position Summary:

The Center Leader, European Economy, Strategy and Finance Center, will bring targeted experience to strengthen TCB's commitment to the field of Economy, Strategy and Finance (ESF) in Europe.

The Center Leader will work with members/sponsors/advisory boards to build a business that enhances TCB's member engagement, research, prominence, and impact in the ESF space (including corporate strategy, financial management, economic forecasts, innovation, and business growth scenarios).

The successful candidate will have a strong business acumen and have a solid understanding of ESF strategies. The Center Leader will build and ensure a sustainable business model and will be responsible for the effective operation of the Center, leading a cross-functional staff to drive the agenda and deliver on the value proposition. The Center Leader will have excellent written and verbal communication skills and be able to engage senior corporate audiences.

The ESF Center Leader will position the Center as a thought leader in ESF whose research and insights are compelling and relevant. S/he must be a committed and inspirational leader internally, guiding the Center team to carry out its important work in convenings, insights, research, outreach, and policy (where appropriate). A major focus will be taking advantage of the economic opportunities associated with the Center's activities. S/he will be a member of TCB's Management Committee and the International Senior Management team.

The position is based at The Conference Board's European head-office in Brussels.


  • Build and maintain relationships with current and potential members and sponsors and continuously articulate a strong value proposition.
  • Account management for key multinational companies that are both heritage members converted into ESF Center members and newly recruited ESF Center members.
  • Ensure retention of members through the delivery of high quality ESF insights and a compelling membership proposition.
  • Confidently and comfortably facilitate dialogue with CEOs, CFOs, heads of Strategy other senior corporate executives and other thought leaders in the field.
  • Network and motivate to engage members and sponsors in directing their "time, talent, and treasure" toward generating and sharing insights.
  • Active presence at external events and internal management meetings.
  • Communicate effectively with The Conference Board's European Council operations and Economy, Strategy and Finance colleagues in Asia and the United States.

Essential Functions:

Operation: The ESF Center Leader shares accountability for all aspects of the organization's operation and administration. S/he is accountable for revenue, cost, and achieving financial surplus of the ESF Center. S/he will participate in the selection, development and management of Center staff and build strong relationships with Council Directors.

Revenue Generation: The ESF Center Leader is accountable for driving revenue from the Center's memberships, sponsorships, conferences, partnerships and foundation grants (as applicable). The Center Leader will work with colleagues to strengthen the value proposition, create new offerings and evolve the business model to stay relevant.

Insight Development and Sharing: The ESF Center Leader shares accountability for ESF content creation as well as dissemination, developing and overseeing all aspects of the Center's insight development (from research, institutes, working groups, councils and programs/conferences) and working with colleagues to ensure the sustained and meaningful participation of members, advisory boards and customers in its offerings. S/he must ensure that the organization maintains a pipeline of relevant content to support the Center's position as a compelling place to convene. S/he will work closely with TCB's Economy, Strategy and Finance Center Leaders and researchers in the US and Asia to help create world-class ESF Insights and contribute to Global and Regional Share Groups.

Prominence: The ESF Center Leader leads outreach efforts to increase TCB's prominence in the ESF space in Europe. S/he will be recognized broadly as a subject matter expert (SME) and will work closely with colleagues to build a deeper bench of SMEs (including Senior Fellows) who can speak to current and future customers. S/he will frequently serve as speaker at the Center's councils, conferences, and digital media. S/he will ensure that experts from the staff or Local Experts will develop a substantial public profile to build the brand of the Center (through webcasts, briefings, roundtables, Op-Eds and social media)

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Advanced knowledge of and relevant ESF experience with TCB expertise areas.
  • Deep understanding of current trends in Economy, Strategy and Finance strategies.
  • Articulate and effective communicator in both writing and presentation.
  • Ability to adapt to a changing environment and prioritize tasks accordingly.

Education and Experience Requirements:

The ESF Center Leader will be a dynamic and innovative executive with a record of achievement, strong leadership, and business acumen. The ideal candidate will have had both a substantial record as a thought leader in the ESF area, and shown the ability to run a business in research, consulting or advisory services.

  • A minimum of 10 years of professional experience related to Economy, Strategy and/or Finance.
  • Master's degree expected; more advanced degree desired.
  • Previous internal or external leadership positions in the Economy, Strategy and/or Finance roles.
