Position Summary
This role is responsible for TCB’s Marketing & Communications Center, one of the five vertical US business units. The M&C Center serves Marketing and Communications executives, specifically Chief Marketing Officers and Chief Communications Officers, offering a suite of products and services designed to help them succeed in their roles, to stay ahead of trends, and to support their team’s development. Products and services include conferences, councils, webcasts, podcasts and research. In addition to delivering existing products and services and the P&L, the Center Leader will design new engagement activities in partnership with internal staff and the Members.  The Center Leader will participate as a member of TCB’s Executive Committee.
The M&C Center Leader will provide vision and leadership to support the core business strategy and mission. Specifically:
Oversee four associated Institutes: Marketing, Communications, Consumer Dynamics and Sales. Recruit and engage Institute leaders, part-time topical experts with an interest both in primary research and in engaging with functional executives.
Ensure that the Institutes have robust Advisory Boards, populated with senior business executives who agree to provide input into future research and who want to participate as thought leaders on the Center’s topics.
Engage C-suite M&C Center Members via a variety of products and services, from Councils to Conferences to webcasts, briefings and more; invite Members to participate in activities, e.g., panels, webcasts, conferences, etc. Arrange for public and private briefings to Center Members or others to drive engagement and Membership. Design and create Center-specific new experiences, products and services to meet Member needs.
Directly manage Center staff, from researchers to engagement directors, to ensure Member satisfaction. Partner with internal support groups, e.g., finance, marketing, IT.
Work closely with Program Directors, external topical experts, for affiliated Councils and Conferences to ensure knowledge sharing as insights are developed across activities and events.
Serve as the public face of the Center: speak with Members regularly about their business issues; make connections with other Members as appropriate; and talk with the media as opportunities arise to gain visibility around Center insights.
Partner with the Director of New Products who designs products to meet the needs of Members across The Conference Board
Collaborate with other Center leaders on topics and initiatives of mutual interest as well as TCB-wide, flagship projects.
An undergraduate college degree is required; an MBA is highly desirable.
At least ten years of marketing, communications and/or public relations combined with general management experience; both B2B and B2C marketing experience in a Fortune 1000 company is ideal. At least five years managing direct marketing, database marketing, digital marketing, social marketing (SEO, paid search, social media), website management and e-commerce experience.
Demonstrated personal thought leadership and subject matter expertise in the marketing and/or communications space, to include writing articles and/or speaking on marketing and/or communications topics. A strategic thinker who can construct strategic frameworks to take the business to the next level.
Ability to engage with Fortune 1000 C-suite marketing and communications executives; comfort in uncovering business issues and responding with creative programming that meets Member needs.
A leader of high integrity who can add to the current “value proposition” by building The Conference Board brand and awareness.
Demonstrated success leading the marketing/communications and/or public relations function within an organization/business with substantial growth and profitability. Ability to create business plans that generate growth. Strong financial, analytical and planning skills.
Builds high performing project teams: develops and motivates individuals and project teams toward higher levels of performance. Thinks outside of the box; ability to be creative, flexible and innovative.
