JOB SUMMARY:

 

The Senior Education Project Manager works to support the effective implementation of CED’s portfolio of work on a diverse range of programs and projects in early childhood, K-12, post-secondary education, and workforce development. This position is part of a 5-member team that assists in developing, managing, promoting, and publicizing CED programs, projects, reports, and events and reports to CED Vice President, Education Programs. The role involves a broad range of responsibilities including project management, budget development, grant monitoring, event organization, contracts, billing, publications release, and coordination with communications, legal, and finance staff.  

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 

  1. Manage the implementation of all education program work, on time and within budget, that leads to effective impact at the local and national levels.
  2. Develop detailed project plans to monitor and track progress of education program work.
  3. Conduct analyses of education program progress and results to support planning, evaluation, and reporting purposes.
  4. Organize education program and project meetings/events/activities with external consultants, as well as with local partners in states across the country.
  5. Assist with the release of education program and project publications, including writing education program content for the CED web site and newsletter.
  6. Serve as the CED liaison for the development of education program contracts, scopes of work, and billing.
  7. Develop processes to ensure efficient and prompt payment of vendors and external consultants.
  8. Establish and maintain files and record keeping systems for all education programs and projects.
  9. Coordinate with appropriate CED staff on financial reporting for education program and grant work.
  10. Other duties, as requested.

 

SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:

 

The successful candidate will possess:

  • A bachelor’s degree in education, policy, administration, or another related field and/or Project Management Professional (PMP) certification, or equivalent work experience.
  • 2 - 5 years of professional experience as a project manager, preferably in the field of education policy at the state or national levels.
  • Demonstrated success in managing and monitoring a range of projects and budgets.
  • Superior organizational, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
  • Outstanding writing, analytic, and communications capabilities.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Capacity to work both collaboratively and independently in a fast-paced environment with multiple projects.
  • Ability to balance competing priorities and operate on short timelines.
  • Acumen to work with high-level national business and education leaders.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally for education project-related activities.
  • Preferred: A passion for education and public service-orientation.
