Position Summary:

The CED Researcher for Fiscal Health Policy, a strategic thought leader, develops, implements, and supports CED’s fiscal health policy projects and programs, with the goal of increasing awareness about the challenges posed by unsustainable federal debt and of providing reasoned, bipartisan solutions for policymakers, and their staff, as well as, for business leaders. This role will assist CED in creating deliverables set forth in CED’s Peterson Foundation Grant.

Responsibilities:

• Serves as an intellectual leader and a researcher for fiscal health policy analysis by identifying leading issues and developing reasoned, bipartisan solutions including in-depth analysis of the drivers of debt and the implications of high debt.
• Conducts multiple policy analysis projects, collaborating with CED business leader Trustees, including Solutions Briefs™, policy backgrounders, primers, data visualization, infographics, op-eds and other original written content on fiscal health issues. 
• Design and implement programs to create high-quality content, in a timely and effective manner, including scheduling, planning, and conducting CED meetings, events, briefings with Congress and Executive branch officials, webcasts, podcasts.
• Establishes and maintains a network of outside subject matter experts (SMEs) with whom to collaborate with for Trustee briefings, and other programs and projects with the public policy and business community officials.
• Entrepreneurially develops and executes new content areas and product types (e.g., working with data sets and producing data analyses leading to online, interactive content; fast turnaround analyses of recent policy developments).
• Provides information on fiscal health issues with CED Trustees, policymakers, and the media, as needed and develops and leverages social media content.
• Other duties as required.

Qualifications:

• Applicant must have a minimum of 2-5 years’ relevant experience in analysis of U.S. public policy and demonstrated ability to create original content that effectively disseminates such analysis. 
• Demonstrated expertise in in fiscal policy is strongly preferred. Knowledge of the US budget process and preferably knowledge of the largest drivers of the US budget deficits and debt—including Medicare and Social Security.
• Experience in a relevant executive or legislative government agency is highly desirable.
• Bachelor’s degree is required, and a graduate degree is preferred.
• A demonstrated ability to creatively develop projects, engage experts and policymakers, interact with business leaders is essential.
• Ability to write for and communicate effectively with a non-expert business and policy audience is essential. Ability to work with data sets to produce policy-relevant, online, interactive products is highly desirable.  No use of generative AI will be permitted for the content created in this role.
• The position requires creativity in assisting in the development of strategic alliances with prestigious business leaders, external experts, and organizations; and in developing program and projects that will increase the visibility of CED’s content with external audiences and the media.
• Ability to work with data sets to produce online interactive content.
