Position Summary:
The Senior Global Economist is a member-facing role working delivering insights for what’s ahead for our Members and the public to help the world’s leading companies navigate challenges, seize opportunities and better serve society.
The candidate will focus their expertise on four main programs in the ESF Center of The Conference Board — 1) Global Economic Outlook, 2) Growth and productivity research, including the Total Economy Database, 3) Global trade and supply chains research, and 4) Global Gray Swans Tool.
The incumbent will be responsible for coordinating and executing the global outlook on a monthly and annual basis with economists in Europe, US, MENA, and Asia developing research methodology, and collecting and analyzing data. The candidate will also be tasked with monitoring other Emerging markets and developing economies to support the global growth forecast. Incumbent will provide data and modelling experience to other projects as required.
The candidate will produce pithy, business focused, and actionable insights, including written reports, webcasts, podcasts, and presentation decks for members and the public. The incumbent will engage in briefings, roundtables, and working groups with members, and present at internal and external conferences. The candidate must possess strong presentation skills and exhibit comfort engaging with external media.
Accountabilities:
- Work closely with the Chief Economist to craft and shape TCB’s global economic outlook.
- Coordinate and execute the global economic outlook on a monthly and annual basis, encompassing a short-run 2-year forecast and long-run 10-year projections.
- Develop, prepare, and present materials for internal and external discussions of the outlook.
- Deliver insights pertaining to macroeconomics, growth, intangibles, and productivity. Oversees the updates, maintenance and further development of the Total Economy Database, a proprietary global productivity dataset.
- Create insights on global trade and supply chains and maintain proprietary trade tools.
- Key contributor to and maintainer of the Global Gray Swans scenario planning tool.
- Run macroeconomic scenarios for internal forecasting and external scenario planning.
- Present insights to members, the media, the economist community, and other users through a variety of channels, including webcasts, podcasts, briefings, member calls, and conferences.
- Contribute to program, develop and document processes to improve efficiency, and identify revenue opportunities.
- Work with Member Development and other departments to identify ways to attract new Members to their Center, as well as sponsors for their Center’s publications and programming.
- Work in close coordination with other Center Leaders and Deputies/Principals to integrate insights across other Centers.
Qualifications:
- An advanced degree in Economics with a minimum experience of 7-10 years working in a data-intensive production and front-office environment.
- Deep understanding of economic trends and priorities.
- Substantial record as a thought leader in economics.
- A deep knowledge of the dynamics of global growth and the global economy is required.
- Solid credentials in data analysis, along with robust analytical and quantitative skills, the ability to organize and interpret data, and acute attention to detail.
- Exceptional writing, communication, and presentation skills with a track record of published research in economics.
- Proficiency in software and statistical packages (e.g., Excel and E-views, R, Python, STATA, SAS or Matlab) as well as some programming experience is required.
- Experience with large, dynamic macro models (e.g., Oxford Economics, IHS model) is preferred.
- Expert project management skills are required.
- Capable of working in a multidisciplinary, business-oriented, collaborative team-based environment.
- Possesses ability to work well under pressure, and to meet deadlines.
