      Position Summary:

The Economic Data Analyst position requires a person having both backgrounds in economics and programing. The ideal candidate will provide programming, statistical, analytical, and graphical support to the Economy Strategy & Finance Center. As part of the Economics team, the Economic Data Analyst will work with complex data sets, conduct data analysis and modeling, help create data-based insights for internal and external users. Projects may involve statistical analysis, including the use of econometrics and machine learning.

Responsibilities:

  • Supports the monthly production of The Conference Board Leading Economic Indexes and other indicators, including Help Wanted Online, in a timely manner meeting all deadlines.
  • Assists in the development of statistical and predictive models, such as recession probabilities.
  • Develop actionable insights and/or chartbooks using Tableau.
  • Utilize programming skills to transform databases for use in our Data Central tool.
  • Contributes to the overall Economics Program work through support of additional projects.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Experience using statistical computer languages (R, Python, EViews, SQL, SAS, SPSS) to manipulate data, draw insights and create visualizations from large data sets.
  • Experience querying databases and using statistical computer languages: R, Python, SQL, etc.
  • Knowledge of advanced statistical techniques and concepts (regression, properties of distributions, statistical tests and proper usage, dynamic factor modeling, machine learning, etc.) and experience with applications.
  • Experience visualizing/presenting data for stakeholders using Tableau.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for coordinating across teams.
  • Innovative and able to develop new project ideas.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Master’s in economics and/or computer science, or Undergraduate degree in economics and/or computer science plus 2 years of work experience.
  • Preferred coursework in economics, mathematics, statistics, and computer science.
  • Experience working with economic data and large and complex databases.
  • Experience using Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint.
  • Candidate should be detail-oriented; a team and independent worker able to effectively multi-task and meet strict deadlines.
