Position Summary:
The Conference Board’s Marketing & Communications (M&C) team is looking for an experienced writer in the MarComms space to create original, interesting, relevant, actionable and data-driven content for our Members on the issues that matter most to them. Working closely with multiple stakeholders, the Writer will help plan and then execute a robust annual portfolio of content in partnership with, and for the benefit of, our Members.
This individual must be a self-starting professional with direct experience in writing original marketing and/or communications related content who will be able to extract interesting insights specifically for CCOs, CMOs, CEOs and other senior leaders in the M&C space. The Writer should exhibit a strong command of both the business landscape and the English language, superior marketing and/or communications business acumen, the ability to distill the most important content, and the ability to manage projects autonomously. The Writer will co-create, with our M&C Team, a continuous flow of relevant, action-oriented, future-looking content that meets TCB quality standards and conforms to our editorial and production process. The Writer will also convey messages in multiple formats, e.g., briefs, reports, translating written content to compelling visuals etc.
Responsibilities:
The Writer, Marketing & Communications, will, in partnership with M&C Center stakeholders, conceptualize, plan, write, and design original, newsworthy, data-driven content that will fuel the stories our Members tell and guide our Members to drive better business outcomes to help them better serve society.
- Execute a robust stream of content in partnership with, and for the benefit of, our Members:
- Bring creative ideas to our content brainstorming sessions. Monitor news and trends related to marketing & communications and identify information gaps that we can fill with short-form and long-form content;
- Collaborate with our researchers to translate survey data and qualitative reports to compelling, concise, insightful and engaging content in multiple forms; and
- Create original content including collective Member insights, short data studies, and longer-form analysis and features.
- Create content by collaborating with other stakeholders (including the Member Engagement Team, internal and external SMEs, digital media and marketing teams) including:
- Short-form content created with concepts/input/content from Senior Advisors, Marketing & Communications on predetermined topics from the annual portfolio, likely reflecting interviews with and survey data from our Members as well as their own M&C expertise;
- Pre-read & summary documents for M&C Round Tables and Webcasts as well as final reports for full editorial production;
- Short-form content of distilled insights from our conferences, webcasts, podcasts, and our on-line community platform to appear in our weekly newsletter called ‘Short Cuts’
- Website and digital event copy for email marketing as well as the TCB website;
- ‘Insights” for social media; and
- Compelling visuals that can convey research findings at a glance
- Create “insights for what’s ahead” re: marketing & communications topics with the goal of obtaining business media coverage targeting outlets (Bloomberg TV/Radio, Forbes, CNBC Squawk Box, New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Fox News, NPR), media/podcasts (PR News, AdWeek, AdAge) and social media impact (LinkedIn, Twitter).
- Create high-level Board, CEO, CCO and CMO level briefing presentations on produced content and/or interrelated themes and issues.
- Contribute to major, cross-center writing projects each year involving our executive team and the most senior level executives from across various industries (c.f. Geopolitical Hub, Economic Storm Hub)
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with M&C Center staff and stakeholders across TCB (for example, marketing, editorial/production, digital media, Conference and Council teams).

- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or Masters in Marketing or Communications strongly preferred; journalism, English literature, business or design also considered
- 4+ years of writing experience; writing experience in the marketing & communications space, ideally in the research arena strongly preferred
- Portfolio of published work preferred. Writing samples/links to published work required
- Experience working in a fast-paced environment with the ability to create high quality work efficiently while managing multiple projects
- Experience distilling the most important information from a presentation, conference, meeting etc.
- Experience developing content for social media sites
- Excellent research, writing and editorial skills, with the ability to edit the work of others for a superior outcome
- Competence to tell visual stories to effectively illustrate content, e.g., infographics, compelling visuals
- Competent command of the business landscape, superior business and marketing & communications acumen
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, collaboration, presentation, project, and time management competencies
- The capability to manage projects autonomously
- Capability to collaborate and build trust with senior internal and external stakeholders
- Fluent capability to use Microsoft suite of technology platforms in PC environment (e.g., Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams etc.)
